Musei AltoVicentino

A cultural project for the promotion of museums and collections located in a vast and varied area in the province of Vicenza

Musei Altovicentino gathers structured museums and smaller but no less significant organisations, including collections, sites, historic gardens and botanical gardens, visitor and interpretation centres. In some cases, they are the result of research and collections of volunteers and individuals from local communities, involved in the management of institutions and activities.

Musei Altovicentino presides over the coordination of joint activities of museums, entrusted to the Service and Information Centre.

A vision of working together
for the museums of the area

2001

In 2001, the municipal authorities felt the need to establish a tool to encourage the exchange of expertise and virtuous management of economic resources in the cultural field of museums. Thus, the Museum Network of Alto Vicentino was born, established on 17 March 2001, and officially inaugurated in September of the same year.
The first five-year agreement brings together the towns of Breganze, Malo, Marostica, Monte di Malo, Nove, Santorso, San Vito di Leguzzano, Schio, Valdagno and Velo d’Astico.

2006

It is renewed in 2006 for two years with the entry of Lusiana, Valstagna and Villaverla.

2008

In 2008, a new five-year agreement is concluded, signed by the municipalities of Lusiana, Malo, Marostica, Monte di Malo, Nove, Recoaro Terme, Roana, Santorso, San Vito di Leguzzano, Schio, Tonezza, Valdagno, Valli del Pasubio, Valstagna, joined in 2012 by the common of Rotzo.

2011

In 2011, 10 years after the establishment of the project, which over time has exceeded the exact boundaries of the territory of Alto Vicentino, it was decided to redefine its identity.

This way the name of “Musei Altovicentino” made its début, which better reflects the care for the cultural heritage and the extensive cooperation at a local level with new quality objectives on the part of the institutions involved.

2014

Year 2014 sees the signing of a revised agreement, which strengthens the coordination of planning and reorganizes the participation of competent offices of the joint commons, which are to assume a more active role in the implementation of programs and projects.

2001 - 2021

today

Since that first group of 10 commons, which gave start to the project, now 15 administrations participate in the Musei Altovicentino initiative, which includes over 40 museums, permanent exhibitions, sites, botanical gardens and interpretation centres for teaching purposes. 18 of these are public (12 with direct management and 5 under an agreement), the others are private. Among all, there are 11 recognized museums based on the Regional Law 50 / 1984.

Many museums and collections have been created thanks to the will and passion of citizens, who are committed to rebuilding the cultural heritage, returning important traces of history to the communities of their origin. The quality of this work has been appreciated by local governments, which included these services in the cultural offer, also supporting private initiatives.

From the very beginning, the importance of coordination between these different realities was understood and, thanks to this overall vision, Musei Altovicentino represents today an effective tool for participation and promotion of various aspects of the cultural, economic and social identity of the area.
