Monte Pasubio. The Sacred Zone

In 1922 the Italian State (Regio Decreto-Law 29 October 1922 n. 1386) recognized the southern and central area of the Pasubio, Sacred Zone, for having been the scene of decisive battles during the war. This area includes the Upper Cogolo, Cima Palon, the Damaggio Saddleback, the Italian Tooth and the Tooth Saddleback. At that time, neither the Austrian Tooth, nor the Seven Crosses and its Cradle of the Dead were included in the Sacred Zone, i. e. areas in which there were recorded the greatest losses of men, both by the Italian and Austrian armies.

The visit
The area is bounded by thirty white stone chips dating back to 1925, where the names of the soldiers and those who deserved the Medal of Military Valor are engraved and to walk through these places is to make contact with historical memory, walking through a real open-air museum.
In 1938, thanks to the intervention of the military genius, the Road of Heroes was built, providing the Sacred Zone with a new access road and a road ring of considerable historical and tourist value. It is on this ledge that indicator tables are installed on the mountain and re-arranged the chips damaged by bad weather and bad weather.
