“El casèlo dei Grotti” Ethnographic Museum of rural civilisation in the mountain area

Tonezza del Cimone
A journey through time to discover how people lived in the mountain areas. A former "Caselo", where families brought milk for processing, now houses a museum, which exhibits working tools of the "dairyman" and objects of the everyday life of the past. The "Ethnographic Museum of rural civilisation in the mountain area" allows you to find out through objects and testimonies about private life and working activities typical of the mountains: such as cheese maker and butcher. You enter a traditional house, with a kitchen, the centre of family life, and the typical master bedroom, as well as an exhibition of tools used in fields and woods.
The visit
Allowing the objects to tell how we were, listening to the sounds around them, is the best way to understand our roots and pause to reflect on how much of that past we carry with us. Duration of visit: 1 hour Groups: maximum 15 visitors
The history
Close

In the ’70s he the last “caselo” of a “turnaria” dairy, where families of small farmers had been delivering milk milked every morning, was closed. The renovated building was intended to preserve a piece of history of the mountain community of Tonezza.
The museum takes visitors on a journey into a bygone era: for some it will be a nice return in the past, for others a more exciting discovery of a lost world.
